H. Alldredge's Arrival in Argentina!

Dear Alldredge Family,

I am writing to inform you of the safe arrival of your daughter in the Argentina Buenos Aires South Mission.  Attached here you will find a photograph of Sister Alldredge with President and Sister Thurgood.  Her trainer will be Sister Quintero and they are going to serve in the area of AdroguĂ© . Their preparation day will be every Monday and you can expect an email letter on that day.  I am also including important information about mailing packages to your missionary.  Please be sure to read and remember.

Thank you for sharing Sister Alldredge with our mission.  We appreciate your support and also the fact that you have a daughter who wants to serve.  We will take good care of her!  God bless you.

Receiving Packages : Please advise friends and family:
Due to restrictions imposed by the Argentine government, we're having trouble receiving packages from other countries.
Because of this, America South Area Presidency South recommends that no packets are sent to their missionaries while they serve in Argentina. If packets are sent they will likely remain in the Customs Capital and never reach your destination.
We want to clarify that there's no malice in it, but to remove these packages from customs is an expensive and time consuming process for the church, missionaries and families. If appropriate measures are not taken, these problems can be avoided.

Aaaaannnddddd... She's Off!

She made it! Yesterday, H. Alldredge called us from the airport in Atlanta during a lay-over, and we all got to take turns talking to her for a bit. It was hard to hear at first because of the grateful tears of happiness that were shed just being able to hear her sweet voice, and her hearing ours! It was so nice. She is doing great, and was very nervous but ecstatic to finally be making the journey to her new home! She left Atlanta at 9PM and safely arrived in Argentina about 4:30AM this morning.

We are so thankful for all the prayers and support from everyone in her behalf. We are so glad that she made it there is safely, and are so happy that she now gets to start working and settling into her new life there in Argentina! Please continue to show your support and pray for her and her future investigators. Loves!

The End of MTC Life

Hermana Alldredge is nearing the end of her MTC experience. It was defiantly a learning experience for her, and now that the time has come to leave, it is bitter-sweet. She is VERY excited to get to Argentina and start her work there! We are so excited to be able to hear from her on Monday when she gets to give us a quick phone call. It will sure be good to hear her voice again!! Here is a little update and pictures from her last email:

Well, here it is..... only a few more days!!!! ahhhhhh! so excited yet so nervous!!! I packed a bunch today, so I am all ready to go! I have a few things out for Sunday and Monday but besides that, everything is ready! i'm so excited/nervous to get there and meet my comp, and never speak english again. I guess they usually try to put people with native speakers, so this could be interesting haha. It'll help me learn spanish sooooo well though! i'm excited! in 6 months i'll be writing you in Spanish because i won't really remember english (I hope).

Picture with the zone (the 'older' people in the zone), and with the branch pres and his wife (the Bowens) they are soooo awesome!

ONE MONTH! *Updated*

So today is July 18th, which marks 1 month that Mina has been in the mission field! We decided to take a trip to one of Mina's favorite places, Tropical Smoothie, to celebrate and chat about her and the adventure she is on. WE LOVE YOU H. ALLDREDGE!!!

-Lily

*UPDATE*

Hermana Alldrege did send me a short email last Saturday, but she has been pressed for time (which I think is a good thing!). She said she would be sending a snail-mail letter, so until I get that update, here is the just of the last one:

"i'm happy you guys went to Tropical Smoothie!!! Gosh, i miss that place so much! oh, and you guys too i guess ;) I LOVE you guys and i'm so happy to see that you are doing ok!!! Thanks for the pictures, I'll talk to you later then! Look for my letter! :D

New Experiences

News from the 'front':

So in a devo this week, we had a super musically talented guy who has a doctorates degree in piano. He played a bunch of songs for us, and in between songs he would tell us a little bit about his experience when he was on his mish. One thing he said that really touched me was when he was talking about the hard times in his mission where he didn't want to get up in the morning, or when he just wanted to get on the next flight home, he would always say to himself: 'how much do I love the Lord?' I really liked that because now when i have times where i'm just so exhausted, i think, 'how much do i love the Lord?', and things really do get easier throughout the day! This mission is really not about me and sometimes i get stuck in thinking about myself when what i need to do is think about others. We also watched a talk by E. Bednar a week or so ago.. idk if i told you about it but it was called 'The Characteristics of Christ', and apparently they watch it all the time here. It's an amazing talk that kind of chastises people who are just thinking about themselves when they are here on the Lord's mission... it's really good!

So, teaching my teacher (H.Vargas) has finally been going better. For some reason he likes to pretend to be some kind of really closed off person (when he pretends to be an investigator) which is really hard when you're trying to teach him! But this last lesson went really well with him cause we focused more on teaching the person, not teaching a lesson. We asked a lot more questions and it went soooooooo much better! Right now we are teaching 5 "investigators" in COMPLETE Spanish!!! it's crazy! One thing that I find a little difficult here is that the people in my district have the gospel down to a science! They know the words inside and out and i barely even know the scripture masterys... literally i only know where like 3 are... but it's giving me a bigger desire to work harder and to really try to convert myself before i try converting other people :)

My other teacher, Hermana Johnson (aka Luz), is soooo awesome. She seems to have energy all the time, i don't even know how she does it haha. She was talking to us one day about Argentina (cause that's where she served) and she told us that the meat is to die for and that once we come back, we won't be able to eat meat again cause nothing will ever be up to the Argentinian standard!

My companion and i are in the choir and it is super fun!!! i LOVE it!!! Also, it helps that it's on the same day and at the same time that we have 'service', so we can do that instead of service.. haha ya, that's how i roll :D

Another day, we had a deco  and i can't really remember it right now, but i know it was good. it was by Neil Anderson and he talked about the Holy Ghost. Afterwards, we had a discussion with our district about it, and wow... it was so good! It was crazy how strong the spirit was, and even though the elders are always joking and goofing off, they weren't this time, and dang... the change in the atmosphere was amazing and it reminded me that THIS is why i'm here. This is what i want to share with others! :) But ya, that was my life this past week lol my time is almost over here too, i only have like 2 1/2 more weeks left here!!!! Wooooooot! then it's off to Argentina!!!! SO CRAY CRAY!!!!

loves, H. Alldredge

This is my teacher, Hermano Vargas doing a weird meditation thing on his chair lol he's a cool guy, and oddly, very flexible.
This is Hermana Whitney and her love of drinking ginger in water lol gross!

this is also our whole roommate people being together, as we do every night, and pigging out on stuff we buy lol.

The Fourth of July

Here is the latest from H. Alldredge!:

It's been suuuuuper hot in here!!!! It was way fun yesterday (on the 4th of July) because we had hot air balloons coming over the MTC! Later that day, we went and saw fireworks from the Stadium of Fire with other missionaries over at the West Campus, and we got to have some ice cream!!! Yum yum.

The MTC is going great! I'm kinda sick of the whole experience now though... haha. Not in a bad way, but i just want to get into the field now! Some new missionaries did come into our zone last week! 18 new people!!! It's crazy!

I met one of the girls who has the coolest story about her mission:  She was almost going to marry this one guy, but then she also had another one who she was writing to on his mission ( i know so sad!) haha. But she didn't know who to chose or what to do... so she decided to get her patriarticle blessing. In her blessing, it told here straight out that she needed to go on a full time mission. Crazy right?!? So that night, she started her papers, and she got her call mid-may, and it told her that she was leaving in late June for the MTC. She kinda freaked out because she was going to have to pay for her whole mission because her parents couldn't, so she wanted to work like crazy in the summer time to get as much money as possible. Her and her mom prayed that day for help because they didn't know how they were going to pay for it. Then that day, the girl went all over trying to find a job but no one was hiring, and so she got super discouraged that night. Later, when she checked her mailbox, she found an envelope that only had her name on it. She opened it and it said that they were glad she chose to go on a mission, and that they knew it was something that she had to do. And THEN... they told her that they would pay for her WHOLE mission!!!!!!! How crazy is that?!!! She has no idea who it was, but she knows that the Bishop gets a check every month paying for her mission. How crazy!!!!!!!! I thought that was so amazing!!!!

I love the stories and the people i get to meet here! My testimony and conversion is being strengthened everyday, and i absolutely love it! Time here just flies by but not at the same time! the days feel like weeks but the weeks feel like days! It's crazy!!! Oh, and i was called to be the new missionary music coordinator fyi, not that exciting but an interesting calling haha. Happy 4th!
